The Royal Deeside Railway
The Royal Deeside Railway gives you an opportunity to experience all of the excitement and glamour of a vintage railway journey in a beautiful setting alongside the River Dee. The original Deeside Railway opened in 1853 and was regularly used by the Royal Family on their way to Balmoral Castle before closing in 1966.
It’s now been restored to its former glory and features a mile-long track to ride on, soon to be expanded to two miles to reach Banchory. It’s run by passionate volunteers who take pride in helping visitors learn all about its fascinating history.
