Commissioned by the first Viscount Melville, it was originally designed by renowned Scottish architect William Playfair in 1791 and remained in the possession of the historically significant and powerful Dundas family right up until the Second World War. Today, the castle has been carefully renovated and restored to its former glory by the Hay family. Combining charming traditional features with modern elegance, Melville Castle now operates as a luxurious hotel with an old world quality; perfect for those seeking an alternative break from Edinburgh.
