  • Immaculate hotel in a beautiful setting with the added bonus of spacious rooms, friendly staff and delicious food.

    Reviewed on

The decor and ambience in this immaculate hotel ensures a relaxed and happy stay from the moment you step in through the door. Our room was huge and so comfortable. The staff are friendly and obliging and both dinner and breakfast relaxed and enjoyable experiences. The food was delicious and well presented. A memorable stay. We will definitely be back.

Lochgreen House has been in the same family since its inception and it is this longevity and continuing family involvement, especially front of house that makes the level of service and hospitality second to none.
But on arriving, the extensive and well manicured grounds and gardens indicated that this was going to be something special before we even reached reception.
The comfort and ambience of public rooms have always been important to us and LochGreen must rank as one of our favourites. There's the cosiness of the reception area, the whisky bar and adjoining lounge exude a relaxed country house feel and then wow, sudden you're facing a bright split level cocktail lounge with French windows looking out onto the lawns. This was an extension built a few years ago and how spectacular it is.
And then there's Bisque the restaurant and yet again there's a wow factor. Styled as a French brasserie but it successfully combines two separate areas, one bright and brasserie style one with intimate banquettes.
And to the food and as expected, it certainly met expectations. There is a carte plus a fixed price market menu. We chose from both and interestingly the outstanding dishes were both starters; Hand Dived Scallops with a Parmesan Veloute was unctuous, whilst Pork Belly with Fried Vegetables, Pak Choy, Chilli and a Hoi Sin Sauce ; succulent pork and melt in the mouth fat.
However it was a breakfast dish that took top honours. A stack of black pudding, bacon, poached egg and Hollandaise not only looked spectacular but tasted fantastic. Fine dining at breakfast!
Lastly but certainly not least, was our spacious and comfortable bedroom with balcony. We may have been doing something wrong but we could not get the coffee/hot water machine to boil within reasonable time or offer more than a dribble.
Our luxury en suite with roll top bath and separate shower impressed but we would suggest a brighter light above the washbasin for shaving and ladies making up.
So, much to love about Lochgreen and we are already looking forward to our return.
