About this event

What the Butler Saw

  • Within the pristine walls of his private psychiatric clinic, Doctor Prentice is interviewing a new secretary who wants the position but seems underqualified
  • Mrs Prentice appears flushed and in urgent need of a drink following an illicit encounter with Nick Beckett, blackmailer and bell boy at the Station Hotel
  • In the meantime, Doctor Rance, a Government Inspector, and policeman Sergeant Match arrive amidst increasing chaos with searching questions of their own
  • What The Butler Saw is Joe Orton’s final, most ambitious play – a masterclass in manic farce and fearless comic writing
  • With distinctive characters and a series of improbable situations, prepare to explore comic territory few playwrights before (or since!) have dared to visit
  • Contains strong language and subject matter which the playwright very much hoped audiences would find offensive

Horsecross Arts

  • A creative organisation and registered charity set up in 2005 to run and refresh Perth Concert Hall and Perth Theatre.
  • Their multi award-winning team has earned reputation for critically acclaimed performances by world-class artists and inspirational community activities
