You’ll sit at one of the large communal tables with a view of the kitchen, you won’t know what you’ll be eating until you get there and all diners arrive at 7:30pm, with the food being served soon after. Opened in 2015 as a creative restaurant and food research hub, Edinburgh Food Studio has garnered high praise from critics and foodies in Edinburgh and beyond. It was included in Condé Nast Traveller’s top 20 restaurants to visit in Edinburgh, named as one of the 10 coolest things to do in the city by GQ Magazine and given an outstanding 10/10 review by The Herald’s food critic Joanna Blythman.
Ben Reade, the restaurant’s owner featured on 2018 series of the Great British Menu and has a seriously impressive CV. He studied at the Ballymaloe Cookery School in Ireland before returning to Scotland to run award-winning gastro pub Iglu. He won a scholarship to the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo, Italy and graduated top of his class, then became Head of Culinary Research at the Nordic Food Lab, the research arm of the world-famous 2 Michelin star Noma.
