Chef Max Gott says "food doesn't have to be serious" but if you ask us, his dishes are seriously good. Bistro Forty Six is one of only a handful of Newcastle restaurants that features in the Michelin Guide, and what was once the best-kept secret in Jesmond is now a firm favourite with foodies in the city.

"Absolutely incredible! I could not speak any higher of this restaurant. My partner and I went here for an evening dinner and we were utterly blown away. The service was excellent, was attentive, yet not hovering. The meals were what really set this place apart. My partner went for the chicken on the menu - in her words "literally the best chicken I have ever had". I went for the venison and it was spectacular. Tender enough that you did not even need a steak knife to cut through it. The vegetable pairings and presentation were exceptional."
