Bedroom could do with a revamp as it's so dated. Otherwise facilities were acceptable although not sure I'd pay full price. This was a stay using a voucher which was gifted.

Although we enjoyed our break, the hotel needs updating, it looks a bit tired and in need of some tlc. The staff were very attentive in the restaurant and breakfast and dinner were very good

Hotel not up to usual standard of Macdonald hotels.
Rooms etc are a bit tired looking and in need of an update.
Food - not anywhere near the standard. 2/3 star me.
Spa/leisure - again the facilities were tired however the spa staff were very good.
In general it wasn't up to the cost.

To be honest, I left feeling quite miserable. The hotel is lovely and everything was of very high quality, unfortunately excluding the service.
I booked a spa break with a friend at a very quiet time for the hotel. Firstly, the central reservations were awful and I had to contact them on 3 further occasions to get our reservation correct.
We arrived early and understood we needed to wait for our room. Did not expect to wait over 4 hrs, due to being forgotten about. By then we had a quick turnaround for our evening meal with was excellent.
The following day, our breakfasts were served with much of the requested food missing.
Then on to the spa. Did not enjoy the facial - but enjoyed the hard sale to buy products even less. The therapists seem to tell us anything to get us to buy, this was extremely off putting so much so that we never decided not to go back the following day for further treatments.
Afternoon tea turned into a disaster. As the restaurant had the wrong time for our booking. This shouldn't have made a difference as we were the only people there. Despite this we waited over 20 minutes to be served and contacted staff twice to remind them we were there and could we see the menu at least.
Day 2 another morning of random breakfasts and not being served what was arranged for and getting unexpected food items, we often queried if we were being served someone else's meal. Also, staff never seemed to realise when table items were missing such as cutlery, napkins. Even asking for cutlery seemed not to register. To the point where we just took from a table near by to showing staff what was missing. Interestingly, staff never asked for feedback.
When checking out we heard an itison customer having issues with her booking and I mentioned to the duty member we had terrible booking issues also. Meet with her frustrations about 3rd party bookings. And a "you get what your pay for attitude" I did wonder if Itison bookings are given a second rate service as there is a feeling they don't make money from us. -being so quite they probably won't make any money without it custom.

This hotel is in a lovely peaceful location. The reception staff were very pleasant and our room was ready upon our arrival. We enjoyed the swimming pool, sauna and steam room. The changing facilities are very clean. Our room was nice and the bed was very comfortable. However, the tv is not a smart tv. It is far too small for the size of the room and of an older style without wifi access. The shower is not very effective. We were on B & B rate , so can’t comment on dinner. We were looking forward to breakfast but were not particularly impressed with the service or the food. Whilst the staff were friendly we were not given a menu and waited quite a while to be offered a menu for hot food. The selection on offer at the buffet could be improved and I particularly don’t like jam and marmalade in a large bowl to “help yourself” Individual portions are much more hygienic. The view from our table was looking over the golf course. Which was lovely. But the radiator beside the table could do with a clean and some painting. My husband had the full breakfast and I had poached eggs with mushrooms, beans, vegan haggis and tomato. Possibly the worst poached eggs I have ever eaten. The yolks were uncooked and it was apparent the eggs had not been put onto kitchen paper prior to being plated. The plate was swimming in vinegary tasting water. The beans had no taste at all. Considering B & B is 50% breakfast it was all a bit disappointing. We had stayed in The Riverside Hotel at the beginning of the week for £79 DBB. The food is excellent there and far superior to The Cardrona.
