Lovely Treatments and Staff, But Facilities Need Updating
Reviewed on
We booked a spa day package which included two 25-minute treatments each, a three-course lunch with a drink, and use of the facilities throughout the day.
The best part of the experience was definitely the staff and the treatments themselves. We completed health and allergy information at reception before our treatments, which was reassuring and showed good attention to guest wellbeing. My facial was excellent, and I was pleased to find they used products that I already use at home, so I knew they wouldn't irritate my skin.
Unfortunately, the facilities felt quite tired and in need of some investment. Many of the lockers in the changing rooms didn't work, the towels were old and scratchy, and although robes were provided and comfortable, they also felt well-worn. Guests are required to bring their own footwear, which was disappointing for a spa experience.
The pool area wasn't particularly relaxing as it appeared to operate more like a general leisure centre. Swimming lessons were taking place during our visit, there were cleaners working around the pool, and there was a constant flow of non-spa users. This made it difficult to enjoy a peaceful spa atmosphere.
The treatment rooms themselves were pleasant but noticeably cold. During the treatments, the music stopped after the first session and there was a long period of silence before it restarted for the second treatment. The soundproofing also wasn't great, with loud treatment room doors and conversations outside the rooms regularly interrupting what should have been a relaxing experience.
The relaxation room was lovely, with comfortable loungers, calming music, and complimentary tea and water available. It was one of the highlights of the day, although it could have been slightly warmer.
Lunch was included as part of the package and was served from a set menu. We both enjoyed the soup starter, and the staff were very accommodating in allowing us to swap the included alcoholic Prosecco for a non-alcoholic version. However, the main courses were disappointing. My friend had a wrap and I had the rarebit, and both dishes felt very basic - certainly nothing we couldn't have made better at home. We also ordered a portion of fries to share, but for over £4 the portion was extremely small and underwhelming. Dessert options were a chocolate mousse or sorbet; both were pleasant enough but didn't feel particularly special.
Overall, the customer service and treatments were excellent, but the facilities, food, and overall spa atmosphere didn't match the price point. With some investment and attention to detail, this could be a much stronger spa experience, but at present it feels somewhat dated and underwhelming.
Just what we needed

Excellent lunch, facilities were nice and quiet being a Monday afternoon and the treatments were fabulous - our therapists were Linda and Samantha - can't recommend them enough.
Worst spa day ever

Given as a gift to a special friend who got in contact to say she had the worst experience. Facilities’s dirty, seat in the sauna had splinters all over the wood, toilet door didn’t lock and problems with jacuzzi. Would not recommend, and do not buy as a gift for anyone as you’re wasting money.
We enjoyed the treatments & the spa but not our lunch experience.

We enjoyed our treatments & the spa but not our lunch experience. We were booked in for our lunch at 1pm. We were brought to table 29. We ordered our lunch fairly quickly but waited for a long time for the staff to bring our lunch . We had to chase them up for our soup, then again our Scottish rarebit, then got our pudding. It was like they lost our order. We were worried we were going to be late for our treatments at 3pm because our lunch too so long to come. We got no apology for the delay. We were very disappointed with our lunch.
We also ordered coffees at the bar & they didn’t come till we reminded them. So all in all lunch at westerwood was a bad experience for myself & my daughter.

Totally packed and unpleasant

Unfortunately this was not a good experience and not worth the price. Everywhere we went was absolutely crammed with people to the point that it was unpleasant. We couldn’t swim in the pool due to how busy it was and there wasn’t even a space for us to perch at the side without being in the way or getting splashed by kids. Due to the volume of people it was hard to get changed in the changing room, and zero privacy. The treatment itself was fine, but the relaxation room was very noisy again due to the amount of people. The way the three course lunch was described we were expecting more than soup and a sandwich with a chocolate pot, and my friend’s lettuce had a slug in it. I’m sorry but the only good thing I have to say is that the treatment itself was as expected.

Spa day with treatment and light lunch

We had a nice visit, but had to pay an extra £10 each to have a 25-30 minute back massage. The massage was good but hands on was only 19 minutes- we set a timer on our watches. The treatment comes before spa access and there is a lovely relaxation room that you can access during your visit. The pool is about 10 metres long so not the best if you like to swim lengths. The sauna and steam room are nice but very small. There is a jacuzzi next to the pool, which was very comfortable and warm. The whole pool area was nice and warm too. We swapped out our Prosecco for a soft drink. Lunch was soup for a starter, a choice of a chicken wrap, a rarebit or super salad and desert was a chocolate mousse. All lovely and you could pay extra for sides of fries, etc.
Good not great

My mum treated me for a big birthday and it meant a lot to us to spend time together.
The therapists were lovely, very helpful and professional.
The pool etc was good, busy the day we were there.
The 3 course lunch was a bit disappointing, not a great choice. If we went again we would opt for the afternoon tea as we’ve had this before and it was a better option.
We had a good day and would use again.

My daughter had spa day vouchers for Westerwood. We arrived at 11.00 which is the first time you can get access on a day basis - the pool area was already full and we got the last two loungers before we headed for lunch then treatments. Robes and towels are provided but not flip-flops.
Lunch was most disappointing - it has been pared back to the minimum with lots of extra charges. The treatments were excellent and the relaxation area lived up to its name.
When we returned to the pool area there was only one lounger left without a towel claiming it, although no-one used any of them.
The staff are lovely and welcoming at reception, in the dining room and in the treatment rooms.
The experience was good but not great.
