Lovely, relaxing break

Stayed two nights. Lots of cosy areas to read and relax in. Lovely loch views from the restaurant. Lots of beautiful places to walk to with strategically placed benches all around. Food pretty good too! Ideal place to chill out.

2 night stay. Very comfy, cozy hotel. Beautifully decorated for christmas. Open fire! Food is good. Bar is well stocked. Staff really friendly. Perhaps a bit isolated though you can walk into Tarbert. Perfect for a break away from everything with lots of good hill walking/cycling opportunities and stunning scenery.
A most enjoyable stay.

The hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Staff had gone to considerable efforts to make every area absolutely outstanding. Meals were excellent with the breakfast offering being filled with choice, quality and quantity. There were many pleasent walks in the very extensive gardens. It must be wonderful then the rhododendrons are in flower. It was a pleasure to be there and I would recommend Stonefield Castle Hotel without reservation.

I show below response to request from the GM at Stonefield sent on 15/11/25 and to date no response
Good evening, I reply in response to your e mail of 14th.
This stay was booked via Itison and changed from dates in October due to clash of dates. We thank you for that.
Tuesday was as you know very wet especially after 4 pm. We arrived @ 2 pm and room 8 was ready!
It looked OK on arrival and we turned the radiator on. The furniture was old and marked, top of unit sticky but good Tea Tray.
We asked for extra pillows and the reception girl noticed we need more towels.
So far so good.
I could not find out how to alter the showers head, no instructions and the fan did not work.
My wife was not feeling like Dinner so I had it alone.
Service was Ok and I ordered the Fish and Chips. This arrived very quickly, as although ready prepared. Hand Cut chips consisted of a few skin on chips placed under the fish. The fish was rectangular shape. Peas and tartare sauce as well. Plate very bland.
Dessert, I chose the ice Cream. 3 SMALL scoops of rice cream £9 ???
Breakfast was OK I had the Scottish . That was to the point of being burnt. Ok with me but. Why !!
On leaving for a day out I mentioned the sower to reception and the maintenance man would look at this. Did not happen.
Our room was serviced on return but tea etc was not replenished and odd cups !! Table top still sticky.
Dinner at night . I did not book a time but as usual practice thought 6 pm would be carried fwd
Had the soup? And bread. Then the burger and chips. The bacon had to come out after as was forgotten. OK tasty but with only the burger and chips the plate it was a bit empty.
Managed to get the shower to work although the water flow a bit odd. Very stiff action to move valve !!
Poor sleep as a lot of noise from other rooms and duvet became lumpy.
I went for breakfast at 7.30 after checking as info in room said 8. Again toast over done and was it butter ??
Again ordered Scottish but after 20 mins gave up and left. On Wednesday had arrived in 10 mins. No matter Thursday was bit busier..
I telephoned on Friday to check on a Barbour scarf that I had left in the room and the promised call back that did not happen so had to call back twice on Saturday , not answered at first try. NO Scarf! We had found a relaxing sleep item in the room on Tuesday. So not happy that no scarf found.
We had not looked too much at web pages before coming but since then looking at the images we must have been at a different hotel. We noted that very few rooms beside room 8 were occupied and feeling we suffered by booking with Itison.
I know we should have raises issues during the stay the points just build top and then looking at the web pages highlighted the points.
We stay at a lot of hotels and know that food prices have risen but feel that the costs for Dinner are high for what is promised.

Fantastic stay at Stonefield Castle and will definitely go back. The large room was spotless with a large bathroom, overlooking the loch.
The food and service was first class, all of the staff are an asset to Stonefield Castle.
There is beautiful grounds to explore with a lovely walk to the jetty, but a bit steep if you have mobility issues.
We will definitely be back in the near future.

We were surprised by how comfortable we were for the money. Location, staff and food were all excellent. Would highly recommend for a long weekend in rural Scotland.
