Our second visit to the George this year and it is just as good as ever! The hotel is very comfortable and welcoming, the staff are so friendly and helpful in a lovely unobtrusive way, the food is excellent and the rooms are clean and well appointed. We are planning a return visit in 2026!

The staff were great. The foot really good our second time here. Unfortunately our room was so cold even with the heating on ( perhaps not adequate enough radiator size) the bathroom only had heating ( electric) for two hours bathroom furnish lovely but too cold to shower.
WE CHECKED OUT EARLY did not stay for second night. Everything else was really enjoyable Would be cautious of room being booked as our previous room was good
A pleasant overnight stay

The only drawback to this hotel was the fact there wasn’t a lift and the rooms were spread out on 3 levels
The room was warm and nicely furnished the food was good quality and plentiful
Lovely hotel and location with great staff

The staff were very friendly and the cosy atmosphere with the log fires made for a relaxing break. We wish them every saving getting their plans passed for the swimming pool renovation a much welcome facility that could be used by the locals too.
Comfortable and well worth every penny

Such a nice organised hotel in the lovely Northumberland. It was busy which is a good sign…and is a haven for walkers around the untouched countryside. It was better than we expected…they catered to my inability and our room was so clean spacious and comfortable the food and drinks were so good and well worth the money and the staff were down to earth and attentive Breakfast was the icing on the cake fresh warm and well thought out
Situated in a perfect spot for all the history around
Would highly recommend.

Slightly disappointing

The outside looked lovely - riverside setting. It was a hike to eventually get to our room - too many signs, corridors, stairs, and doors. While the furniture was modern and the bed comfy, the curtains were hanging by only a couple of hooks on both sides. Tried to fix but no luck as hooks broken. I think the room might have been used by smokers as it smelt very stale from the moment we opened the door. Luckily there was a decent sized window! While the dinner menu was adequate (venison overkill!) the staff serving certainly need some training in customer care and personal appearance - scruffy jeans does not cut it! Better lighting in the dining room is needed. Apart from the riverside setting the only other good thing was that breakfast was excellent. No information about the Roman fort nearby or Hexham or Corbridge. Leisure facilities were completely defunct!
Really good value

The hotel has been improved on since we last visited and the breakfast was great

There are stairs everywhere even in the dining room and no lifts. It is an old hotel with a modern extension built into a hill on several levels. We booked three nights but left after two because my husband couldn’t manage the stairs. The staff were very nice about our early departure and refunded some of what we’d paid. The best thing about the George is its situation by the river and their pleasant garden for enjoying a drink outside. Otherwise the food is poor both at breakfast and dinner - same menu every night for dinner and burnt food at the self service breakfast buffet. We would only go back if we happened to be passing and felt like having a drink in the garden if weather permitted.
