Disappointing Afternoon Tea
Reviewed on
We have had afternoon teas before in the Crowne Plaza but this time was a disappointment. The bread on the sandwiches was hard as if they had been made earlier and left out for a while. Also the tea was not hot.
Excellent service and ambience for Afternoon Tea

It lived up to our expectations. Service was very good. Big plus is being able to park easily.
An experience I was looking forward to ended in disappointment.

The staff member who seated us was pleasant. We were served water fairly quickly while we waited on our afternoon tea to be made.It took about 15-20 minutes to arrive. The sandwiches were disappointing the end ones were hard and the fillings were sparse.Out of 8 sandwiches 4 were cheese and chutney. The two scones were inedible as they were rock hard and couldn’t get the knife through them. The three cake were nice but they were very small cakes cut in half for two.I did wait for a member of staff to come to our table to say about the scones but no one came to even ask how everything was at any point after serving us.
Overall lovely setting but afternoon tea was so disappointing and I will not be back.

The best afternoon tea I’ve ever had! Sandwiches were delicious and so fresh, scones were nice and warm, cakes were amazing and the tea was very good too. My friend is pregnant and can’t eat mayonnaise and the staff were very accommodating. The staff were very polite and friendly and the service was brilliant. I will definitely be back here!

booked as recommended welcome with excellent parking facilities. Afternoon tea served hot and display of cakes and sandwiches and scones included choice for vegan. Near large window with open view of Riverside . Staff paid attention to refill tea/ water. Food was delicious and atmosphere relaxing, quiet. Staff were welcoming from reception phone call to service in restaurant. 1.00pm afternoon tea ideal tourist visit.
I had a fantastic time.

Afternoon tea at the Crowne Plaza always a treat. Great selection of sandwiches, scones and cakes, with accoutrements, plus plentiful refill of tea and coffee. The staff were excellent as usual, with Kevin taking a starring role. But Mandy, Catherine and Leanne are super too.
Nice hotel average afternoon tea

Bought to treat my friend and her daughter however they only brought out Afternoon tea for two when I asked for the other I was told the vouchers only for two , I replied I booked for three people so wanted the experience for three the waitress then proceeded to shout out I’d need to pay for the third person and it would cost £17.95 which I was fully aware of !!! Spoiled a birthday treat

Disappointing experience

We phoned to book our afternoon tea within the allocated timescale and were told there was no availability within the voucher use date and were then told we could book a date up to 30th April as not our fault-so we did!
On turning up at The Crown Plaza we were told voucher was out of date and had made a wrong booking, we were basically told that no one had told us that we could extend as staff had been told not to allow therefore insinuating that we were attempting to be deceitful with it. Kept going round in circles that we were to leave or pay to stay, was very embarrasing and manager very rude, not sympathetic to situation and no further suggestions made. I understand a restaurant and a reception are two different areas within the hotel but as a collective it is the same establishment so to brush off as someone else told you and was wrong wasnt really up to the supposed 4* hotel customer service. Zero interpersonal skills and not so much as an apology for the situation we found ourselves in. Against better judgement i purchased a new voucher as i had taken my mother in law for a supposed nice afternon out and wanted her to get what had been promised and we had travelled a reasonable distance that i didnt want to turn back. Food itself was nice enough but nothing unusual or special considering with 2 vouchers purchased the experience cost £54 for the 2 of us (already been told by the manager that he wont authorise a refund from itison as they need to request to him first). Id say the voucher cost of £28 was its worth rather than it being much of a special offer. Really disappointing experience that would put me off using the hotel for anything again.
