• The village is overlooked by the dramatic ruins of Varick Castle, once the seat of the well-known Clan MacKay, which you can hike to for stunning views
• Visit the Kyle of Tongue, a shallow sea loch with many ancient and prehistoric sites around it, including the site of a 6000-year-old Neolithic settlement
• If you fancy a refreshing seaside walk or have brought your pup along for an invigorating run across the sands, head to Strathy Bay, a remote sandy beach with magnificent hilly scenery
