  I’d like to begin with we did enjoy the evening overall however I’m sad to say there were a few things that let our evening down. The receptionist who checked us in was a tad aloof however every other member of staff was welcoming and attentive for the remainder of our stay. Our room was fine. I think my expectations were much higher than what we actually experienced. The hotel decor is beautiful downstairs and maintained but the rooms or at least our room could definitely be updated as the decor was very tired. We slept very well though. Room was quiet and comfortable. The evening meal was very disappointing. We were given bread at the start which was lovely but the dinner went downhill from there. We had soup to begin with. My husband had the pork for his main. I had the fish and what was supposed to be butter confit ratte potatoes (they were not. Instead I was given 3 hard and undercooked chips or potato wedges along with wild leaks, minus the apple and celeriac which was on the menu. The portions were small and not really to the standard or quality we expected from such an established restaurant. The breakfast in the morning was lovely. Again the staff at breakfast were so lovely and couldn’t be more attentive. We were happy overall but then upon checking out we were again greeted by the “aloof “receptionist. It was fine but did leave a bad taste in our mouths at the end of our stay. We payed for the drinks from our evening meal and were also charged an extra 12.5% service charge which we didn’t expect. I just wanted to mention incase other Itison guests go not expecting this either. My husband and I did still enjoyed our evening but probably wouldn’t be in a hurry to return. Because of the hotel’s reputation we had really high expectations that sadly were not met. Such a shame.
