House for an Art Lover

  • Originally designed to be an elegant country retreat for tasteful socialites, the house is set within the magnificent 169 acre grounds of Bellahouston Park
  • In 1901, Glasgow's very own Charles Rennie Mackintosh entered a competition to design a "Haus Eines Kunstfreundes", or "Art Lovers House"
  • Despite being disqualified on technical grounds, the judges were impressed with Mackintosh's unique design
  • More than 70 years on, and Mackintosh's concept became a stunning and truly inspirational reality
  • The fun doesn't stop there - make a day of it by exploring the maze, or wandering around the Victorian walled garden
  • Rated 4.5/5 on TripAdvisor

  • A lovely interesting visit

    Reviewed on

We enjoyed our visit at House for an Art Lover from beginning to end. Unfortunately the weather was torrential rain but once inside the House everything was most interesting and enjoyable.
We were warmly greeted and given handsets to use for our tour around the elegant house. everything described perfectly and easily accessed of the handset. It was nice to be able to go at our own pace and listen to all aspects described fully.
We had a delicious afternoon tea served by such pleasant staff where nothing was too much trouble.
All in all a very enjoyable afternoon out.
