Good Food Expensive Wine
Reviewed on
The restaurant was very busy but staff were well organised and attentive. Menu was brief but adequate. Food was well presented and delicious. The cheapest bottle of wine was £34 - quite a mark up at over 300% - and spoiled an otherise good experience. I was using a voucher which made the food reasonably priced. I would go again if there was an offer but I'd be unlikely to pay menu prices.
Enjoyed 2 course lunch with wine.

My friends and I recently enjoyed the Itison offer at the Scottish Cafe, we all went for the fish and chips which were delicious.
A lovely setting and nice service 😊

What a ghastly meal my friend and I had. Ham terrine starter was a massive slab with an unpleasant flavour. Piccalilli also a strange flavour which left a nasty aftertaste. Really should have been served with bread/toast and not a wafer thin crostini. Pork belly choice of mains was a mistake. All fat with very little meat. A few tiny half potatoes and carrots made up the dish but my friend’s plate had no carrots. We asked for some and they arrived just as we finished. Staff were abrupt and totally disinterested, perhaps because there’s enough tourists and they don’t need returning locals. We’ll certainly not be back.

Menu too light on options

They have a special, stingy cut-down menu for Itison cuatomers, and when the best items on it are "unavailable", there is very little left to choose from.
The restaurant setting is great, but the food offering very disappointing
Delicious lunch, pity about the wine

We all enjoyed the 2 course winter set lunch, opting for a generous ham hock starter or tasty soup and the fish and chips for our main course. All very tasty. The included glass of trebbiano was disappointing, lacking flavour and was very blind.
Food was nice … Welcome and service not so much .

Quiet when we attended on a Monday afternoon . Shown to our table and given menus . A few minutes later waiter rushed over - “ you need the itison menu “ and main menus whisked away .This was despite emailing restaurant to confirm our itison booking .
A few minutes later another waiter came over asking for our voucher PIN number and insisted on taking voucher away with her . Felt the whole experience could have been handled much more discreetly . On a positive note the food was quite nice .
Limited menu without desert

For the 2-course voucher, a smaller lunch menu with limited option was provided, without desert options. Should have been made clear before buying it
