The restaurant itself is stunning with a lovely view of the Water of Leith, but the food unfortunately failed to live up to the setting. I visited for my father's 90th and mother's 79th birthdays, but the experience lacked any "sparkle."
The duck starter was bland, and the roast beef main was underwhelming—only one slice of beef, tough kale, and potatoes that tasted frozen. We finished with the panna cotta, which was equally disappointing; it came with only a tiny smear of rhubarb. At £121 for four people, it simply wasn't value for money. For such a milestone occasion, we expected a standout meal, but it felt very average.

Really enjoyed our meal at the tollhouse. Service was great. Food was hot and very tasty. The brisket was really tender and tasted delicious.

This was our third visit to The Toll House and we were lucky this occasion to be given a table with a view of the Water of Leith. The Itison menu has a good amount of choice and includes the Sunday roast but for various reasons we both felt we didn’t really enjoy our food as much on this occasion although appreciate the efforts made. The serving staff are very efficient and cope well despite the restaurant always busy and the toilets are immaculate even have their own Toll House soap and hand cream products which smell divine.

5* Sunday lunch. Staff friendly and attentive. We arrived 30 minutes early but made very welcome. The food was delicious and portion sizes perfect. Thank you so much to the team at The Tollhouse :)

I took a friend to the Tollhouse for Sunday lunch and everything was great. The menu, service, overall experience was lovely.
