Sandwiches were not very fresh and cake selection was changed. The alternative cakes were not good at all. First time we were.there it was great that's why we returned. Also we were in the bar area not downstairs where we were last time.

The staff were so helpful and friendly. The venue is gorgeous and a great vibe. The tea and coffee were spot on - I tried the “gin” and the “earl grey” teas which were very refreshing and enjoyable. However the sandwiches seemed to be served on dried out bread - that’s the coronation chicken, the salmon and the beef. The desserts were better - the lemon meringue tart was tangy but the pastry a bit soggy. The millionaire shortbread equivalent was enjoyable as were the scones however no raspberry jam! Only strawberry and it was a mini jar and not home made. The Virgin Hotel is a fantastic addition to the Edinburgh culinary scene but on Friday it was slightly disappointing.

On arrival we received a friendly greeting and shown to our table.
Everyone who served us was friendly professional and knowledgeable and made our experience enjoyable.

Great service from email booking to in the venue on the day. Food was delicious. Unusual flavours in sweet and savoury. Dealt well with food intolerance. Would highly recommend and look forward to returning!

From the minute we arrived every thing was great staff went over and above to help you and explained all about the food and drinks available, the environment was lovely and so relaxing. And the afternoon tea was delicious couldn’t fault anyone about our day.

Everything from beginning to end was lovely from arriving and being shown to the Commons Club Bar by a friendly member of staff. The Afternoon Tea was very tasty and morish, Prosecco the nicest I've had for a while and the tea selection covered all tastes. All staff involved were so helpful and couldn't do enough for us and the surroundings so welcoming and comfortable. The only thing I would change would be to have my scones after the savoury elements so I could enjoy the sweet elements last.

Fantastic afternoon tea. As a group of seven you might have expected things to be a bit slower but it definitely wasn’t. Very attentive staff and gorgeous food. 5*
