Overall very disappointed

We arrived about 10 minutes early for for our 2.45pm booking. Friendly greeting by owner and member of staff. No other customers were in so we had freedom of choice for table. Moved from first table as felt cold draught which thought was coming from refrigerated cabinet so moved to another table. We were then shown menu and asked us to choose 3 savoury fillings which we did. Not long after receiving our bucks fizz and one coffee and one pot of tea we were presented with our afternoon selection which consisted of the fillings of our choice served on a petit baquet roll which had been cut in half and a bagel cut into a quarter and a small piece of homemade cheese and tomato slice. The two scones, one cheese and the other fruit again had been cut in half, served with cream and a pot of jam but no butter was provided for the cheese scone. The scones were very dry and I ended up leaving my half of the cheese scone. Whilst still feeling very cold in the tea room I noticed the back door was wide open and the younger staff member was tidying up outside. She then proceeded to get ready to finish for the day so I hoped the door would be shut, which it wasn't then the owner proceeded to sweep the floor near the back door and the toilet next to it and behind the food serving counter. She then started to wash and mop all the floors. She did put a beware of wet floor sign up and when I went to the toilet mainly to run hot water in my hands to try and get a bit warmer, she did ask me to mind my footing. As I was so cold we asked for another coffee and pot of tea. At this point another 3 people entered the tearoom. We didnt at this point wish to try the sweet items which were 2 profiteroles in a chocolate sauce each and a slice of what I believe was cheesecake, so we asked to take them away with us, which we did. We asked if there was any additional charges and were charged for the extra tea and coffee (usuallythese have come with no extra costs in other venues). Overall, the quality and quantity of food was very disappointing and this is based on several afternoon teas we have had in other establishments.. I think the fact the tearoom was very quiet and I can understand the owner wanted to perhaps finish in time at 4pm but sweeping and washing the floors whilst customers are present does not create an overall good first impression not to mention the hygiene standards but it was the overall impression we left with and the portion sizes which were cut to look larger contributed to our disappointing experience.
It was a pity as the owner was a pleasant individual and initially we had high expectations.

The most delicious and inspired choices for an afternoon tea. Everything made in the Tea Room , great quiche , lovely open sandwiches my favourite was the Champagne Smoked Salmon & cream cheese. It was all so delicious and generous portions so we did have to have a box for home.
Lovely service, just perfect 🤩
