High quality food

This restaurant is a hidden gem. Because it is on the University campus, I expect most Edinburghers don't know about it, but the locals do ,as was evident by the customers.
The menu has a great choice of well put together meals, and what we had was comforting and filling but really tasty. The desserts are just unbelievable. Very hard choice to make on the dessert menu.
The wines are good quality too and with the itison voucher we had the wines we chose were paid for by the vouchers' values. I was able to use 2 vouchers so we could have 2 courses plus a glass of wine each and coffee. Really good value vouchers.
The staff are lovely, attentive and helpful and service is prompt but not so fast that you know the food is being cooked from scratch.

Lovely location, good food and wine

Great tucked away location that was peaceful on a sunny afternoon. Platter choices were limited due to one being fish based - so we opted for the cheese board which was lovely. We bought a bread entree to go with it because the oatcakes weren't enough. All the food was lovely.

Outstanding service and exceptional cuisine

This was our second visit to Abacus - this time taking our friends. As before, the service was outstanding. All three waiting staff were welcoming, polite, knowledgable and immediately put us at ease. Whoever is recruiting or training these young people really know their stuff! Their wine suggestion was spot on. Our food selections - pea and feta soup, crab starter and salmon terrine were all lovely. Chicken balmoral, cauliflower veg main course and fish & chips were equally good. We finished with chocolate mouse and a perfect tiramisu.
Without doubt, we’ll return. Highly recommend!!

When the sun is out it's lovely to sit in the garden.
