The worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in

If you like good food, comfort and nice surroundings, don’t come here. I booked this for me and my dad to visit Dunoon and do some research into our family tree. The entrance to the hotel was ininviting and service from reception underwhelming. First impression was that we had stepped back in time. We booked a DBB package. On checking in we received a note to say dinner would be served at 7, our, breakfast at 8.30 and that the doors would be locked at 10.30. Laughable really and we did giggle. On arrival at the ‘dinner hall’ we were given the menu. Choice of starters was ‘fruit juice, pate or vegetable soup’ and mains ‘ steak pie, steamed fish, ham salad or quiche’. Yummy. 🤤 could hardly contain my excitement. The couple next to us turned up at 7.20 and were told they had missed their starter. At this point I’m waiting on basil faulty and manuel appearing. I’d say the food was canteen quality at best. On the plus side the room was clean but basic. The beds were very soft and not at all comfortable. No expense spared on the breakfast either . Foam sausage was a particular highlight. . Couldn’t actually wait to leave.
Great stay very relaxing

As the weather was excellent it probably helped with the stay but we had a lovely time. Staff were very friendly and room with a view was very comfortable. The dinner was average as it was set menu but the breakfast was lovely. .
Pleasant stay

Staff very pleasant and helpful. Paid a supplement for a room upgrade & had a fabulous sea view. Room was nice, comfortable bed, plenty of space. Shower was slow and not very powerful, but adequate.
Hotel in a great location on promenade. Not too easy to get to and limited parking spaces.
The only thing we did not like was that there was only one dinner sitting at 7pm to accommodate coach parties and it was a set menu (3 choices for each course) The food was fair.
Beautiful gardens & views, terrible bed

This was good value for money at £99 for DBB for 2. However the evening meal was a bit like school dinners in as much as they have 1 sitting and you had to eat at 7pm whether you wanted to or not. The garlic mushroom starter was very tasty but you only got half of a very small roll to go with it. The chicken main was overcooked and plain. The mattress was terrible and we got very little sleep. Also, there is no disabled toilet downstairs which made it difficult for me.
On the plus side, the hotel is scrupulusly clean and it's obvious that they have been upgrading the decor and the staff are very friendly, attentive and efficient.
Friendly and comfortable.
