A little disappointing

Not as good as previous stay. Also menu wasn’t as good. Tried to sell us a starter which was different to what was described on the menu. When we raised the issue with person in charge of restaurant, she was rude and had a “take it or leave it “ attitude. When leaving we made reception aware and they apologised and made a slight reduction on the bill. Which helped redeem things a little.

This is the second Short Break we have taken using Itison. I now realise that a discounted room entitles you to the most basic available. Our room was situated up a steep staircase which a lot of elderly folk would not have been able to negotiate. I do not remember being given the option to state physical needs. However, given that we had a rather shabby room, the food served at breakfast was superb. A very good choice of both continental and cooked fare. The evening meal in the Knights restaurant was very nice but expensive. The staff were very nice and attentive. We had to report that a cupboard door had fallen off its hinge and this was repaired by the time we had returned from breakfast.

Good location for Durham and other places of interest. Staff, quality of food, surroundings and overall quality excellent. We really enjoyed the relaxed friendly atmosphere and will likely book again in the near future.

Courtyard rooms are quite small, but do contain everything you need, perhaps apart from drawer space for clothes. So accessible to castle with parking outside the door of the courtyard rooms. The castle was amazing, food excellent and staff exceptionally nice.
