Edinburgh Zoo's Giant Lanterns
- For the first time since 2019, the spectacular outdoor lantern trail is making a comeback – this time with an underwater twist
- From dazzling jellyfish to towering sea turtles, get ready to explore a luminous coastal wonderland like never before
- Plus the interactive trail includes an enormous 14 meter whale for visitors to walk through, a giant crab and a journey through Atlantis
- Locally inspired scenes feature iconic and lesser-known native Scottish species, from the much-loved puffins to the critically endangered flapper skate, one of the world’s largest rays
- The impressive lanterns are hand-crafted by Chinese artists using traditional techniques & 12,000 LED bulbs!

- All infants and children must be accompanied by a paying adult.
- Please note, as the event takes place in the evening, you won't be able to view the animals.
- Advance booking is not required.
- Multiple purchases permitted.
- Suitable for all ages. All attendees require a ticket; under 0-2 yrs are free of charge; 3 - 15 years are classed as children.
- Family tickets are for 2 adults and 2 children.
- Adult, child & family tickets include a hot chocolate, tea, coffee, can of juice or carton of juice & 3 marshmallows for toasting each.
- Pets are not permitted.
- Please note that the zoo is located on a hill and there will not be an accessibility vehicle available during the event. Mobility scooters can be hired for a refundable deposit of £25, or wheelchairs can be hired for a £10 deposit; subject to availability and payable direct.
- Limited on site parking available for a supplementary cost of £2; subject to availability and payable direct.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Edinburgh zoo. Staff were friendly and helpful. Good time to see animals you wouldn’t necessarily see during the day. The ice cream parlour had big queue but the staff worked hard and you didn’t stand for too long. Well organised and a great visit. All round a brilliant experience. Definitely would do it again.
